At HORSEPOWER Therapeutic Learning Center, we believe in the transformative power of working with horses to inspire confidence, healing, and growth. HORSEPOWER is an inclusive environment, and its staff, volunteers, and riders form a wonderful, diverse community united by a common purpose: to support, empower, and inspire through the healing power of horses.

Our therapeutic programs are designed to meet the unique and diverse needs of our community, offering supportive experiences for veterans, individuals with disabilities or speech challenges, corporate teams, and at-risk youth. Whether you’re seeking camps with horses in the Triad, corporate leadership training, or ways to build confidence in young girls, our programs provide meaningful connections and lasting impact.

How Our Classes Work
HORSEPOWER classes are intentionally kept small, with no more than four students mounted at a time. Once individual goals are determined for each rider, classes are grouped by age and ability. Riders must be at least 3 years old. Classes are held Monday through Saturday, with each student riding once per week for 45 to 60 minutes over a 6-week session. Depending on the student’s needs, riding time may be adjusted to ensure a positive experience.

Getting Started
Our primary objective for all students is to provide a safe and fulfilling experience. To achieve this, we conduct a “Risk/Benefit” analysis to ensure the therapeutic riding activity will be beneficial without posing unnecessary risk. The decision to ride involves a collaborative effort among the student, their guardians, instructors, therapists, educators, and physicians to ensure everyone is comfortable with the program.
Prospective students and their families are invited to visit HORSEPOWER to meet our staff, discuss goals, complete registration, tour the facility, and join our waiting list.

Therapeutic Riding Program (Ages 3 & up)

Each participant’s journey at HORSEPOWER is guided by individually tailored goals, whether it’s improving trunk control, enhancing hand-eye coordination, or simply engaging in a joyful physical activity. These objectives are shaped collaboratively by our PATH-certified instructors, families, therapists, and the participants themselves. For students requiring specific support, a therapist may offer hands-on assistance with positioning and activity recommendations.

The physical benefits of horseback riding are significant, as the horse’s walking motion mimics the human gait, encouraging strength in the trunk, neck, and legs. This rhythmic movement also provides a calming, sensory experience that can have lasting effects. Riders also engage in activities on horseback, such as grooming and leading, to work toward their personal goals, as well as those set by their families and external therapies.

Our community of over 350 volunteers brings together people of all ages, backgrounds, and perspectives, creating a truly inclusive environment where every rider feels supported. Through our programs, riders experience physical, emotional, and psychological support, fostering growth and inclusion within the community.
